(I came of age during this era, so I remember the very inclusive vibe.)

I just don't get being wound that tight about the whole thing. Not everyone believes in your god, and not everyone celebrates Christmas the same way you do. Take a deep breath and untie your BVDs.
Diary of an Autodidacthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11849157548643091986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4051826042602269061.post-11061685350105578722015-12-19T18:57:54.789-08:002015-12-19T18:57:54.789-08:00What was especially dumb about this one in particu...What was especially dumb about this one in particular is that "Let There Be Peace on Earth" isn't exclusively Christian anyway. It mentions "God" but was written as an interfaith, international, interracial, etc. cooperation song, so it's more the broad concept of a higher power rather than any particular religion's deity. It could even be deist rather than theist and still work. So essentially, it was a "politically correct" song to begin with, but suddenly becomes a statement about "taking Christ out of Christmas" when Microsoft skips the line about God.

Plus I'm also not sure the person in question quite appreciated that things like commercials have very tight time limits. I would expect any songs to be edited/shortened.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4051826042602269061.post-69571276183776453672015-12-19T17:59:55.461-08:002015-12-19T17:59:55.461-08:00Yep. Even our (mostly) non-political church has a few people like that, and I had to explain the REAL history of "x-mas," etc. etc. Sigh.

I'll give Microsoft a pass - if for no other reason - because of Bill Gates' extensive charity work. And because the Mac guy is dang annoying. I'd rather work with PC guy.

If you get a chance, Why Society Needs Dissent is a worthy book. If you want to know why Christianity seems to get more and more crazy as it withdraws from contact with everyone else...

Diary of an Autodidacthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11849157548643091986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4051826042602269061.post-25370988318705694882015-12-18T20:26:28.975-08:002015-12-18T20:26:28.975-08:00"Sunstein gets a bad rap from the Right Wing ..."Sunstein gets a bad rap from the Right Wing for some reason. I suspect that, more than anything, he won enmity simply by working for President Obama’s administration."

Haha. The first time I heard Sunstein's name was a few years ago, when Glenn Beck claimed he was part of some vast Leftist conspiracy with Obama and George Soros, or something like that.

"But apparently to disagree is to hate in some circles these days."

Well, I was yelled at on FB today for not agreeing that Microsoft's choice to skip a line about God in the song "Let There Be Peace on Earth," in a Christmas commercial that was actually an inside joke about the Windows vs. Mac rivalry, constituted political correctness and/or persecution, so yeah.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
