I have been a violinist (and occasional violist) with the Bakersfield Symphony since 1996.

I fell in love with the violin when I was 6, and begged until my parents got me an instrument and lessons for my 7th birthday. I never wanted to rely on it as a profession, but I still love playing, and am blessed that I have the opportunity to play with a small-town orchestra.

If I were to play a woodwind, I would choose the oboe. I love the sound and even the "fun" of reed making.

If I had to pick my favorite oboe moment, it would have to be Et In Spiritum Sanctum from Bach's Mass in B. The master's depiction of our relationship with the Divine as a graceful dance is just pure genius. (And yes, we used real Oboe D'Amores for the part. I'm a baroque nut, obviously...) Most of my playing now is non-classical, though, and while it's fun and helps me keep my chops in shape, I miss the beauty and discipline of the Great Masters' music.jochanaanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14143066702059757955noreply@blogger.com
