Our youngest daughter is very much Jane from Seventeen.Litterairyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07531449789485981223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4051826042602269061.post-44503908483851970952017-08-28T09:54:50.806-07:002017-08-28T09:54:50.806-07:00My wife has read all the Penrod books, and likes t...My wife has read all the Penrod books, and likes them. We own them, but I haven't read more than a chapter or two that was in my literature book as a kid.

What I have found works regarding reading is to just make sure I read for 30-60 minutes before bed each night that I don't have a rehearsal. Kind of instead of the TV or online stuff. It's amazing how much you can get through with regular time.
Diary of an Autodidacthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11849157548643091986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4051826042602269061.post-61299050131372667042017-08-16T15:11:58.132-07:002017-08-16T15:11:58.132-07:00I'm intrigued enough to want to pick this one ...I'm intrigued enough to want to pick this one up. I've given up on pleasure reading for a long time...there never seems to be enough time, but no doubt if I replaced the endless birdtrails of online articles with a book I'd find I have as much time for it as I did before I carried a tiny computer with me everywhere.

Have you ever read anything by Booth Tarkington? He strikes me as an author you might enjoy, and his lighter fare is stuff you could safely read with your older kids (with some discussion over some attitudes toward characters of color that weren't considered offensive then but are now). The Penrod books, and in particular his novel Seventeen, are hilarious. And yes, that sure expresses it.

I believe I own The Ambassadors, so I should put that one on the list. Things would be better for Olive today, but she wouldn't be able to abandon the cause. I read a profile of Margaret Atwood a few months ago, and at the women's march she saw an older woman carrying a sign that said "I Can't Believe I'm Still Holding This F*cking Sign." I think that expresses it perfectly.

I haven't read all of James' novels, but of the ones that I have "The Ambassadors" is easily my favorite.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16098063988095610502noreply@blogger.com
